Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has confirmed the death of one COVID-19 case in the state saying the total number of death arising from the virus is now 10.
Makinde, who doubles as the chairman, Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force, disclosed on Friday night that the test result for one of the commissioners in the state came back positive.
With this, four commissioners have tested positive for the virus in the state.
In all, on Friday, the governor, who spoke via his verified Twitter handle, announced 76 new COVID-19 cases in the state.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State as of Friday to 1,264.
He added that the number of discharged cases in the state currently stands at 508 as 169 confirmed COVID-19 cases received their second negative test results.
He tweeted, “169 confirmed COVID-19 cases received their second negative test results and have been discharged. This brings the number of discharged cases in Oyo State to 508.
“Also, the COVID-19 confirmation tests for 76 suspected cases came back positive. The cases are from Ibadan South West (35), Oluyole (12), Ibadan North (12), Egbeda (4), Ibadan North West (3), Lagelu (2), Ibadan SE (2), Ibadan North East (2), Akinyele (1), Saki West (1), Ona Ara (1) and Ido (1) local government areas.
“So, the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State today (Friday) is 1,264.
“Of the two inconclusive results for members of the Oyo State Executive Council, one retest came back positive.
“Sadly, we had one COVID-19 related death. So, the number of deaths in Oyo State is 10.
“Please, keep following the guidelines of the COVID-19 Task Force to ensure that we slow down the spread of coronavirus in our state.
“Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, wear face masks in public places and maintain proper social distancing.”
