Men of the Oodua People’s Congress have arrested some suspected terrorists and kidnappers at the Old Oyo National Park.
Their arrest came days after the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, raised an alarm about the reported invasion of the park and parts of Oyo State by some suspected terrorists.
The Coordinator of OPC in Oyo State, Rotimi Olumo, in an interview with journalists on Monday, said four AK-47 rifles were recovered from the suspects after being overpowered by the local security operatives.
He said the hoodlums that occupied the Old Oyo National Park had been dislodged by members of the OPC.
Olumo added that those arrested had been handed over to the police for prosecution.
The OPC leader lauded the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland for giving the group the intelligence that led to the arrest.
He said terrorists and kidnappers had been flushed out of the Old Oyo National Park after the operation.
It will be recalled that the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, recently toured the Oke Ogun area of the state to assess the veracity of the threat.
Olumo said, “We arrested some terrorists and we recovered four AK-47 from them. The suspects and the rifles have been handed over to the police.”
The Oyo State Police Command, in a response to the claim, said three bandits were arrested in the forest along Igbeti-Kisi area.
Olugbenga Fadeyi, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, said the operation was carried out by the police in collaboration with some members of vigilante groups.
Fadeyo said, “The police and vigilante groups encountered the dare devil bandits in the forest along Igbeti Kisi area.
“Three suspects were arrested while some escaped with bullets wounds and four AK-47 rifles were recovered from them.”
