Encomiums pour in as Gov. Makinde, Aiyedatiwa, Udom, Bishop Oyedepo, other Christian leaders attend Bishop Wale Oke mother’s burial

Oyo Reporters learnt that trouble started when a police patrol van, with three personnel on board, hit a motorcyclist who later died.

One of the police personnel reportedly escaped the mob attack while two others ran out of luck as they got burnt alive by hoodlums.

It was gathered that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime and normalcy had since returned to the area.

A military officer said, “The mob had killed two police officers today (Thursday).”

The arrival of Governor Seyi Makinde to the area calmed frayed nerves as the youth who insisted on razing down the Testing Ground Police Station were dissuaded.

Governor Makinde said, “The government which you brought into power would do the right thing for you. Yes, there is trust deficit in the land but I want you to trust me. Whatever happened to you, happened to me. I beg you, I don’t want it to escalate beyond this.

“Every life is important. Your life is important. Don’t waste anybody’s life. Don’t let hoodlums hijack this protest. Don’t destroy anybody’s property.”

In a related development, there was tension in Iseyin community in Oke Ogun area of Oyo State on Thursday following the reported attack of the Iseyin Police Station by some hoodlums who reportedly hijacked the #EndSARS protest in the town.

According to a source, after carting away some rifles at the station, some of the hoodlums, also invaded the Customs base in the town.

They were also said to have sacked the office of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the town.

Efforts made to reach Olugbenga Fadeyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, on the telephone for confirmation were abortive. Text message and WhatsApp message sent to him were yet to be replied as of the time of filing this report.
