The Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, and the Shooting Stars Sports Club have mourned the death of the former board member of the Nigeria Football Association, Elder Bode Oyewole.
Oyewole’s passage was confirmed on Tuesday by 3SC media officer, Tosin Omojola, on the club’s official social media platform.
The former Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club reportedly died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan after a brief illness.
The Oyo NUJ expressed grieve on the death of its former state Chairman in a statement signed by its Secretary, Sola Oladapo.
The statement read in parts, “The news of his demise came at a time when his wise counsel, experience and charismatic attributes as a father figure in NUJ and the society in general are much needed.”
It prayed that God grants the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria in Oyo State also lamented the passage of the deceased in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Niyi Alebiosu, and Secretary, Adewale Tijani,
Oyo SWAN recalled the administrative shrewdness and ingenuity of the departed football administrator, saying he was responsible for the success recorded by 3SC during his time as the club’s chairman.
The RATTAWU, Oyo State Council, said in a statement, “We commiserate with the leadership and members of NUJ and most especially, the family of Elder Oyewole over the demise of an astute journalist and Labour leader.”
The late sports administrator was 3SC chairman when the club won the double in 1998: the domestic league and the West African Football Union titles.
Oyewole was a journalist before going into football administration, having worked at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria.
He was the Chairman of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists between 1978 and 1980 and was Chief Press Secretary to a former Oyo State Governor, Kolapo Ishola.
He is survived by his wife Abosede and children.
