Former First Lady in Oyo State, Chief Florence Ajimobi, was overwhelmed with emotion, on Monday, as the state lawmakers visited the 6th Avenue, Yemoja Street, Oluyole Estate home of the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
The lawmakers, led by the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, said during the visit that the good legacies left behind by the former governor of the state could not be forgotten soon by the people. Ogundoyin, who recalled that the state House of Assembly held a valedictory service in honour of the late National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, said he served diligently as governor for two consecutive terms.
The lawmakers, in a condolence letter to the family, stated, “On behalf of members of staff of the state House of Assembly, I write to express our sincere condolences to your family on the death of the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
“The news of his demise came to us as a rude shock. He departed at a time when his wealth of experience was still needed.
Senator Abiola Ajimobi, during his lifetime, contributed immensely to the development of the state. He was a quintessential and selfless leader.
“His humorousity will be greatly missed. Our prayer is that God grants him eternal rest and consoles the family and all those in his sphere of influence. Accept our heartfelt condolences.”
Ogundoyin added, “As the helmsman of the state, the late Senator Ajimobi embarked on several infrastructural developments across the state.
“He was an amiable and humorous personality and his positive impacts was on so many lives, especially his political associates, are evident.
“The honourable members and staff of the Oyo State House of Assembly sympathise with Her Excellency, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, the children, the entire Ajimobi family of Oja’ba in Ibadan, his political allies, friends and the entire people of Oyo State on this irreparable loss.”
While expressing appreciation for their visit, the former First Lady said the gesture of the state’s lawmakers was in clear recognition of her husband’s service to the state.
At some point, she cut her remarks short as she could no longer hold herself together.
