Some gunmen reportedly attacked the Ado-Ekiti residence of Prof. Banji Akintoye shooting indiscriminately into the compound over the weekend.
Eighty-six-year-old Akintoye is the leader of the umbrella body of the Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua.
Maxwell Adeleye, spokesman to Akintoye, disclosed the incident in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday.
Adeleye’s statement read that the gunmen stormed the neighbourhood on Saturday and attempted to access the compound.
It read that Akintoye was, however, not around when the incident occurred and no one was hurt. Some expended bullets were seen in the compound.
The situation had since been reported to the Ekiti State Police Command for investigation, the statement added.
Akintoye, Emeritus Professor of History and member of the Senate in the Second Republic, is at the forefront of the struggle for the actualisation of Yoruba nation.
