A pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, King of Kings Parish, Bolanle Ibrahim, has been gunned down while on the altar of the church at Maidan Village in Ikosi Ketu Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The late man of God was said to be praying for some people during a child dedication when the men of the underworld broke into the church.
Ibrahim reportedly was reportedly being dragged out of the church when a senior pastor in the church approached and queried them.
The bandits, who were alleged to have attacked the senior pastor, later returned to their victim.
According to Mrs Justina Alebiosu, aunt to the deceased, the incident was a clear case of assassination.
Alebiosu was quoted by New Telegraph as saying, “Before they killed him, they showed him his picture to identify if he was actually the right person they came for. His death was an unfortunate one; we have lost a gentleman.
“It was true we were born as Muslims, but we converted to Christianity. My thinking is that my brother had business transaction with someone.
“I was told when the assailants wanted to drag him out of the pulpit where he was praying for women who brought their children for dedication, he begged them to kill him there and that was where he was eventually killed by the gunmen.”
The woman, who said that the assailants also threatened to shoot any member of the church who dared tried to challenge them, urged the police to release the body of her brother for burial.
“Presently, we are down because of his sudden death,” she said.
Kudirat, wife of the deceased, who said her husband was fasting the day he was killed, dismissed the insinuation that he was involved in cult activities.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident, said the police had begun a manhunt for the assailants.
Adejobi said, “We are investigating the case because we have a clue into the killing.” He said that the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had directed the tactical Commanders to handle the matter.
