The institute, in a statement titled, ‘Governor Mohammed lauds CIBN for donating 160-seater lecture theatre to ABTU, said that the governor, particularly applauded the institute and the banking industry for helping the state in its revenue drive.
The statement, dated November 17, 2021, signed by Nelson Olagundoye, Head, Corporate Communication and External Relations, CIBN, read that “The governor said that his administration would collaborate with the institute on capacity building for its relevant workforce in the state.”
It quoted the governor as saying that Bauchi would extend the hand of relationship with the CIBN in exploiting their judiciary and collaboration to organise training and workshops on issues of mutual concern.
In the same light, the statement quoted the CIBN President, Dr. Bayo Olugbemi, as saying, “We thank you for giving us the opportunity to have this audience with you today while we commend your laudable achievements, especially in areas including road infrastructure, transportation, energy, natural resources, youth empowerment programmes and several other developmental projects as well as social investment programmes across the state.”
It quoted Olugbemi further as saying that the institute was in the state, as part of its developmental programmes to institute learning legacy projects in higher institutions in Nigeria with a view to deepening the study of banking and finance and to address the gap between the industry and the academia.
“To kick start the process, in addition to reviewing the institute’s Banking Professional Examinations Syllabi, the institute at the first phase is bequeathing a 160-seater ultra-modern lecturer theatre, fully furnished with modern ICT infrastructure, to six higher institutions in Nigeria, one in each geo-political zone. The beneficiary institution in the North-East zone is Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.
“I am happy to inform you that we are just returning from the groundbreaking ceremony, and we shall be inviting Your Excellency for the commissioning of the edifice very soon as the project is scheduled to be completed in 16 weeks,” it read.
Among others, the statement read that Olugbemi urged the state government to take advantage of the experienced professionals in the banking industry that could help handle its projects and other initiatives.
It also appealed to the governor to support it for the proposed amendment of the CIBN Act Number 5 of 2007 when presented to the National Assembly, and encouraged the state government to absorb the Banking and Finance graduates/ACIB qualification holders into the state civil service in view of the immense value they portend for public service.
