Bayo Lawal to run as Makinde’s deputy in 2023

The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Housing Corporation, Chief Bayo Lawal, is billed to run as Deputy Governor with Governor Seyi Makinde on joint ticket on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state come 2023. 

This is coming as Governor Makinde announced his resolve to replace his current deputy, Rauf Olaniyan.

The governor made the announcement at the stakeholders’ meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State held at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan recently.

According to the governor, having consulted with leaders of the party, they resolved to nominate Lawal, a lawyer who is a native of Kishi in Irepo Local Government Area of the state as the deputy governorship candidate for the 2023 election.

Dayo Ogungbenro, state chairman of the PDP, said in an interview shortly after the meeting that the choice of Chief Lawal was arrived at for the good of the party, considering his experience in politics and other spheres.

Ogungbenro, however stated that Olaniyan, who defected to the All Progressives Congress, remained the deputy governor until the next election.

Lawal was said to have pledged his loyalty to Governor ‘Seyi makinde and the party leaders and urged the people of Oyo State to support the present administration in its strive to develop the state.
