Oladele succeeded Olayinka Agboola as the chairman of the association following an election of the body held on Thursday at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

Dapo Falade emerged as the Vice Chairman while Taiwo Oluwadamilare was appointed as Secretary. Joseph Okuwofu was named as Assistant Secretary.

Other elected officers of SWEGOP are Oluwatoyin Malik (Mrs.) who was elected as Treasurer; Temi Aboderin, Financial Secretary; and Remi Oladoye, who retained his position as the Public Relations Officer (PRO).

Tunde Busari who coordinated the process, urged the new executive council members to uphold the trust reposed in them and work towards advancing the association’s mission.

In his handing over speech, Agboola assured the new executive of his continued support and guidance, emphasising that his doors remained open for advice and collaboration.

Oladele expressed gratitude to members of the association for the confidence reposed in the new executive, saying, “We are very conscious of how challenging the journey has been to this stage. Thank you for trusting us with your votes to lead this association.

“We acknowledge the challenges SWEGOP faces but with the support of the last executive and our members, we are confident in achieving our goals.”

The newly elected chairman lauded Agboola for his contributions to the guild in the last nine years. He specially saluted his efforts towards expanding SWEGOP’s membership and for his dedication to strengthening the association.

According to him, the house has been dissolved, and there will be a fresh registration for members with new rules of engagement and regulations for them to follow.

He called for support and collaboration of all members in a bid to move the association forward.
