A team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps’ Agro Ranger in the Oyo State Command, has dislodged some herders from the Aroro Kole community along Igbo Oloyin in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.
This is following a distress call from members of the community.
Iskilu Akinsanya, state Commandant of NSCDC, noted that open grazing had since been prohibited in Oyo State with the enactment of the Anti-Grazing Laws by the state government in 2019.
Narrating the incident in Ibadan on Tuesday, Akinsanya said a herder identified as Babangida Musa, 21, was arrested on Sunday after thorough search of the area.
The Commandant said the herders were seen grazing about 400cows within the community.
He said investigation showed that the leader of the group of herders, called Yinusa, 28, and Saidu, 27, came from Ogbomoso.
Yinusa reportedly said that they were on their way to Ogbomoso.
Items that were recovered from the herders included cutlass, knife, rope and a bag.
The Chairman, Aroro Kole Community, Igbo-Oloyin, Mr Kole Tijani, urged Governor Seyi Makinde to provide patrol vehicles and other logistics to improve the response time of the NSCDC team.
Akinsanya assured the people of Aroro Kole that the team would continue to embark on regular surveillance of the area.
He, however, warned against encroachment and illegal activities of vandals and their accomplices in the state saying offenders would be made to face the law.
