As Christians across the country warm up for interdenominational praise services in Abuja and Ibadan tagged, ‘National Praise Altar’ on Saturday, the Convener of the programme, Pastor Joseph Olajimi, has stressed the need for change in governance in the country for positive impacts.
The clergyman, who attributed the recent #EndSARS protest in the country and the violence that followed as outcomes of prolonged silence by the citizens, expressed worries about the problems created by the 1999 constitution bequeathed to the country by the military.
According to him, the constitution was programmed to favour a particular ethic and religious group above others.
Insisting that the recent events had shown that the lopsided system was unsustainable, he said, “This is a trying time in our nation and several other nations across the world. For Nigeria, the fact that successive governments had governed using the defective 1999 Constitution bequeathed to the country by the military made things worse. The constitution does not reflect the will of the people.
“The constitution falls short and is a fraud on the Nigerian people. The 1999 constitution is definitely not a document of the people as it is not by the people.
A lot of the challenges that bedevilled Nigeria since transition from military rule to democracy are offshoots of the defects of the 1999 constitution.”
The clergyman said the National Praise Altar is symbolic of the Biblical Passover that would usher in a new Nigeria.
He stated that participants would attend the programmes in Ibadan and Abuja from across different Christian denominations from the 36 states of the federation.
Stressing further on the programme, he said, “As a nation, we prayed and our prayers have produced some measures of results. As led by the spirit of God, we are raising an altar of praise to God.
“When Judah, under the leadership of Jehosaphat was confronted by the enemy nations, it was the weapon of praise that God charged them to engage against their enemies. They evoked the presence of God and God sent ambushment against their enemies.
“The National Praise Altar that we are raising unto God is symbolic of the Passover that will birth a new Nigeria, bring about the change that we longed and also usher in the fulfilment of the promises and prophecies of God over Nigeria.”
The meeting, holding in Abuja at Victorious Henry Okosun Ministries, will be anchored by Pastor Victorious Henry Okosun.
