Courts in Ogun State are currently under locks and keys as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Ogun State branch begins an indefinite strike in protests against short payment of salaries by the state government.
The state JUSUN Chairman, Mr Edun Tajudeen, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta, said that the strike was in compliance with the directive from its national secretariat.
The national body of JUSUN had directed that the affected staff should embark on strike beginning from August 11.
Tajudeen noted that before the strike, series of meeting had been held with the representative of the state government but ended in a deadlock.
”We noticed the short payments in our salaries since October 2020. This strike is indefinite because on February 24, we gave the state government an ultimatum to pay us our full salaries before the nationwide strike on autonomy began.
“After the strike, the meeting continued with the government but it did not yield any result,” he said.
He, however, appealed to the state government to look into the requests of the workers and do the needful.
Nobody was allowed into the court premises as of the time of filing this report.
