The Iseyin Development Union in Iseyin town has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to consider siting a faculty of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso in their community.
They made the call as Osun State ceded the university to Oyo State after the intervention by the National Universities Commission.
In a statement signed by the National President of IDU, Alhaji Bayo Raji, made available to journalists on Wednesday, the union said the next step would be for the government and other stakeholders to take the university back to glory as assured by the governor.
The statement urged the governor to annex both the human and material potentials in Iseyin by citing a faculty of the University in the community.
It read in parts, “The governor has achieved what seemed impossible again by successfully getting the Osun State Government to cede the ownership of LAUTECH to Oyo State. He has broken many jinxes in areas of infrastructural facilities and welfare.
“On behalf of the people of Iseyin, we want to use the opportunity to appeal to our amiable governor to make use of human and material potentials that are in abundance in Iseyin and site a faculty of the university there.
“We have arable land, we have sites that are suitable for research for farming, raw materials and tourism. Our people are ready to work and are versed in skilled, academic, technology. We have youths that are ready to work too.
“Iseyin has a vast commercial capacity and will contribute more to the revenue drive of the state government if the faculty from LAUTECH is sited in our dear town.”
It lauded the governor for the pace of work on the Iseyin-Moniya Road, stating that the community had been playing supportive roles by maintaining public infrastructure in Iseyin and neighbourhood, including the facilities that were vandalised during the #EndSARS protest.
“We decided not to wait; the people pulled resources together and the police station in Iseyin is currently undergoing repairs. Other public places that were destroyed have been looked into and we are touching those places too,” the statement added.
