There are worries and uneasy calm at the Oyo State House of Assembly in the light of the ongoing investigation of the alleged financial impropriety on procurements of official cars for the Oyo State House of Assembly lawmakers by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan Zonal Office.
Checks by Oyo Reporters on Wednesday morning showed that efforts were being made to clarify facts on the matter to the public in a bid to disabuse the minds of the people of the state from having negative impression.
A credible government source had said that the anti graft Commission had frozen the bank account of the state Assembly making it impossible for the House to make financial transactions.
Oyo Reporters reports that the EFCC opened its investigation against the House regarding procurements of official cars for members of the state House of Assembly on the account of the alleged sharp practices that trailed the transaction.
Some of the official cars were said to have developed mechanical faults less than six months after the delivery.
However, the House insisted that it followed due process and had nothing to hide regarding the said car procurement contract.
The Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, in a reaction to the allegation, said the House would continue to support the EFCC and all government institutions to deepen transparency, accountability, and democracy.
An unconfirmed source disclosed that the EFCC was widening its investigative net on issues relating to the financial dealings of the House, including constituency allocation, running costs and others.
The source further stated that it was for the purpose of widening its investigative scope that the anti graft agency froze the Assembly’s account.
It was gathered that the EFCC invited some top officials of the House for questioning in the early hours of July 26.
