The people of Esan in Edo State have unanimously endorsed Dr Asue Ighodalo for governor in the 21st September, 2024 gubernatorial election in which about 18 political parties will slug it out.
Esan communities, covering the west banks of Niger River, is home to more than half a million people.
Ighodalo, who is the People’s Democratic Party standard bearer in the Edo 2024 election, was endorsed for governor at a virtual meeting held by elites from Esanland.

President and Coordinating Director, Esan4Esan Global Support League, read that the meeting evaluated the candidatures of the representatives of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and that of the PDP, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, in a unanimous decision.
It partly read that “After meticulous examination, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the PDP flagbearer, emerged as the clear choice for governor.
“Our resolve to support Dr. Ighodalo stems from his clear, non-ambiguous manifestos which align with our vision for Esanland’s resurgence. His key pillars include quality education (in line) with our desire for a well-equipped future generation.
“Maximum security: His commitment to combating insecurity through technological innovation resonates deeply with our quest for peace and safety.
“Economic growth: Dr. Ighodalo’s plans for technologically driven agriculture, provision of pipe-borne water and development of road networks will propel Esanland toward unprecedented economic growth.
“Job creation: His promise to create job opportunities exceeding the working population is a beacon of hope for our youth.
“Inclusive governance: Dr. Ighodalo’s pledge to promote tourism, collaborate with indigenes in diaspora and harness our natural resources for economic growth has won our hearts.
“While endorsing Dr. Ighodalo, we respectfully urge distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo to peacefully step down and return to his legislative role at the red chamber. We appeal to all stakeholders to refrain from conflict, recognizing that both flagbearers are illustrious sons of the same ancestral parentage.
“To emphasize our appeal, a million letters will be written to Senator Okpebholo by Esans at home and in diaspora, expressing our collective desire for peaceful resolution. These letters will be sent to his email, WhatsApp and social media handles.
“As Coordinating Director of Esan4Esan Global Support League, Dr. Okoruwa Okojie (Dr. Ojugo) looks forward to leading the teeming membership in congratulating Dr. Asue Ighodalo upon his enthronement as the incoming Governor of Edo State.”
