EFCC to quiz 22 erring firms in Oyo over unexecuted UBEC/SUBEB contracts from December

Oyo State Government has indicated its plan to revoke all unexecuted contracts on renovation and construction projects under its 2012-2018 UBEC/SUBEB Intervention Project from defaulting contractors.

The erring contractors may also be quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, after the November, 2021 deadline as they also risk being blacklisted by UBEC from its contracts nationwide thereafter.

The state Universal Basic Education Board announced this on Thursday in line with the directives from the Universal Basic Education Commission, Abuja.

In a meeting with the 22 contractors in Ibadan, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, said that the contracts would be terminated following breach of contract terms.

Adeniran expressed displeasure that many of the contracts, including those awarded by the previous administration in the state, had been dragging since year 2018.

According to him, this contravened the stipulated two weeks for completion of borehole and maximum of 24 weeks for completion of model schools in the contractual agreement.

Adeniran said that the board would apply appropriate sanctions against all defaulting contractors who failed to meet project specifications in the execution of UBEC/SUBEB jobs.

“The message here is clear: the job has taken too long. Your failure to deliver on the agreed dates is affecting the wellbeing of our children. We will reverse the contract.

“We have issued several warnings. This is about the third time. We need to revoke the contract and give those that will do the job. The guideline is clear and we are not going to compromise,” he warned.

Querying the rationale behind the contractors’ failure to deliver, Adeniran said that the board would, for no reason, compromise the set standards on contracts.
