Barring repeated warnings by the police against the #EndSARS Memorial Protest slated for today (Wednesday), the planned rally still held at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos.
It was gathered that human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, also led #EndSARSMemorial protest in Abuja.
Oyo Reporters learnt that in Lagos, the youths who were seen holding Nigerian flags and shouting ‘End bad governance; we cannot keep quiet,’ were in moving vehicles.
Two protesters, one claiming to be a journalist, were reportedly arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command.
The other person was reported to have carried a placard.
Recall that the Lagos State Police Command had warned members of the public against engaging in #EndSARS protest other than an indoor or virtual rally in a bid to avert a repeat of the violence that happened last year.
The police had warned that anyone seen at the tollgate without an ID card would be arrested and prosecuted.
Police trucks and armed personnel were at the tollgate to stop the rally in line with the order from the police command.
The arrested man, who claimed to be a journalist, said that he works with LegitTV.
He alleged that his phone and driver’s license were taken away from him and that he lost his ID card in transit.
Today’s procession is in honour of those believed to have lost their lives at the tollgate when soldiers dispersed #EndSARS protesters on October 20, 2020.
