The family of veteran Nollywood actress, Peju Ogunmola, has debunked claims circulating online that her only son, Ayomikun, died in a bathroom accident in the United Kingdom.

News of the young man’s passing had thrown the Nigerian film industry into mourning with several unverified reports on social media alleging he slipped and fell in a bathroom.

However, in an official statement issued on Friday by the family’s spokesperson, Yemi Amodu, the family clarified that Ayomikun died in Ibadan, Oyo State, after a brief illness, and has since been laid to rest.

The statement read, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Sola Ayomikun Omobolanle (son of Sunday and Peju Ogunmola Omobolanle), a jewel, a precious child, and a rising star whose light shone brightly and touched many lives.

“His departure is a profound loss to our family and to all who knew and loved him.

“We wish to clearly state that Sola did not pass away as a result of any bathroom accident, contrary to false reports being circulated online.

“He was briefly unwell and, during this period, received first-class medical care. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he peacefully answered the call of his creator. He passed away at a hospital in Ibadan, Nigeria and has since been laid to rest at Eternal Rest Home.”

The family further appealed to the public to disregard the rumours, stressing that the false reports not only misrepresent the circumstances of his death but also inflict additional pain on his loved ones.

“These misleading stories, suggesting that Sola died from a fall in the bathroom without help, are entirely false. They dishonour his memory and bring unnecessary grief to the family,” the statement added.

The Ogunmola family also expressed gratitude for the love and support received since the tragic loss.

Confirming his death earlier in the week, fellow actress Biola Adebayo described the news as “devastating and heartbreaking,” praying for God’s comfort for Peju Ogunmola and the bereaved family.
