About seven people, including a father and his two sons, have been reported killed in a fight between the men of the Amotekun Corp and some herdsmen in Aiyete, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Saturday.
The actual cause of the fight had yet to be known but it was learnt that the fight started at Okebi Village in the early hour of the day.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, said the Divisional Police Officer at Aiyete had moved to the community to assess the situation.
A resident of the area, who gave his name simply as Saliu, alleged that seven persons had been killed with seven houses razed.
“Alhaji Usman Okebi and his two sons were killed. We don’t know what caused the fight. Some persons were shot and injured.
“The number of people killed has increased to seven. Those who were shot and ran away later died in the bush.”
The side that suffered heavier casualty between the Amotekun corps and the herdsmen however, could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
The Commandant of Amotekun Corps in Oyo State, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (retd.), said he was on his way to the area in order to ascertain facts behind the incident.
