The Federal Road Safety Corps says it has launched a Mobile Application and National Crash Reporting Information System with which it can verify driver’s license, number plates and speed detector.
The app, launched on Thursday in Abuja, can provide eye witness report, emergency reports, black spot, National traffic radio, speed limit verification, driving school standardization scheme verification, reminder for driver’s licence, vehicle paper renewal and emergency contacts.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the launch of the digital platforms, aimed at raising awareness and sensitizing bus drivers and passengers on the potential causative factors of road traffic crashes, marked a giant stride in creating a safer motoring environment by reducing crash related injuries and deaths on the highways.
Akume lemented that despite the FRSC’s innovativeness against reckless driving and improper road use, record shows that a total of 2,776 persons were killed while 16,000 were injured in road crashes between January to July 2024.
According to him, these call for concern for stakeholders on road safety. As well, he stressed the need for increased efforts towards reducing the figure of casualties.
Lauding the FRSC for aligning with the renewed hope agenda targeted at digital transformation and economic growth of the nation, the SGF reaffirmed Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that the initiative is sustained.
The Corp Marshal FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, described the mobile app as a software application that could be used to alert the corps on sensitive road safety issues through programmed features such as assisted speeding, dangerous driving, verifying our vehicle documents, etc.
The proper application of it, he said, is expected to drastically reduce injuries and fatalities resulting from road crashes.
