Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has stressed the need for the inhabitants of the boundary communities in Oyo and Osun states to submit to the amicable resolution of all the disputed land instead of fueling the embers of discord.
Governor Adeleke gave the advice against the backdrop of the tension in communities such as Ogburo, Papa, Ogun Ajo, Paku, Ejemu, Eleye, Olola and other communities in Iwo Local Government Area of the state, sharing a common boundary with Oyo State.
The governor, who frowned at the alleged attempts by some elements to alter the existing land mapping, stated that it would be better to jaw-jaw than to war-war.
Stressing further on the importance of embracing peace in place of disputed, he expressed the confidence that necessary steps would be taken in a bid to resolve the lockjam.
Governor Adeleke spoke while receiving officials of the National Boundary Commission, NBC, Abuja, led by Oluwafemi Oshinaike, on Wednesday in Osogbo.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, the governor expressing appreciation to the team, said, “My administration is committed to addressing the development and in doing so, we will not leave any stone unturned.
“All necessary arrangements are on a daily basis, being put in place to checkmate what could have led to lawlessness leading to the breakdown of law and order.”
During a visit to the palace of the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, Oshinaike assured the monarch that the NBC was committed to finding lasting solutions to communal disputes hinging on boundary matters.
Oba Akanbi acknowledged the efforts put in place by the Adeleke administration to address land related crises.
The Oluwo, maintaining that the land matter would have degenerated into severe violence, said, “I implore the NBC officials to put in place necessary peace modalities with a view to complimenting the ones already in place by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.”
