Some yet-to-be-identified-gunmen have reportedly kidnapped the Anglican Bishop of Jebba Diocese in Kwara State, Rt. Rev. Oluwaseun Aderogba, his wife and driver.
It was learnt that the kidnappers swooped on the Bishop and two of the occupants when the vehicle in which they were travelling developed a fault along the New Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.
The Oyo State Police Command said that the command had since begun a manhunt for the Bishop, his wife and driver.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the command, Adewale Osifeso, gave the indication while confirming the incident in a statement on Monday.
It was learnt that the clergyman, his wife and driver were kidnapped around 9am along the new Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.
This came two weeks after the Methodist Prelate, Samuel Kanu-Uche, and two others were kidnapped.
The abductors released Kanu-Uche and two others after collecting N100 million ransom.
The statement by the PPRO read that preliminary investigations revealed that the victim’s vehicle developed a mechanical fault while traveling from Yewa in Ogun State to Jebba, Kwara State, enroute the new Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.
It stated that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in the Command headed the rescue operation that began since 9am on Sunday.
It stressed that the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Ambush Squad, Puff Adder, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and Conventional Police personnel, alongside local hunters and vigilantes, had swung into action.
The statement by the police enjoined members of the public to report any suspicious movement to the nearest police division.
Meanwhile, the chaplain of the Anglican Bishop, who was at the scene of the kidnap, has disclosed that some armed men emerged from the bush as the vehicle in which they travelled developed a fault on the way from Ogun State to Jebba.
The chaplain who escaped from the scene said that he was not visible to the men of the underworld as he was wearing a black cassock.
He explained that he hid himself by falling flat on the ground as the abductors marched the Bishop, his wife and driver into the bush.
