A yet-to-be identified ‘hit and run’ driver has reportedly killed a young man who was crossing the express way at the JAMZ 100.1FM Junction, along Lagos-Ibadan Road, Challenge, Ibadan on Friday evening.
It was learnt that the unsuspecting young man crossed the road without noticing that there was an oncoming vehicle from the other side of the road.
The Special Rescue Team of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority later took the corpse of the young man to the morgue at the Adeoyo hospital.
The Executive Chairman, OYRTMA, Akin Fagbemi, advised motorists against reckless driving in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The statement read that motorists should be more cautious especially at night when visibility is low, adding that it is also important for those crossing the road to look left and right before doing so.
It read, “While this remains quite unfortunate and highly regrettable, we commiserate with the family and loved ones of victims of hit and run incidents across the state.
“We advise drivers to take cognisance of pedestrians crossing the highways in order to help reduce cases of this nature. Also, they should not be too afraid to help rescue any victim seen on the roads even before the arrival of relevant agencies.”
The statement also urged those looking for their loved ones to check for the corpse of the man at the Adeoyo hospital morgue.
