The 13 suspended chairmen of local government council areas and local council development areas in Oyo State were on Thursday reinstated by the state House of Assembly.
Their reinstatement came after the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters read in the Assembly by its Chairman, Olusegun Popoola.
They were suspended recently for failing to submit reports on the earth moving equipment in their various council areas to the House as directed.
The Oyo State Forum of Caretaker Chairmen had in a letter appealed to the House to reconsider its stand on the case of the suspended caretaker chairmen .
The affected caretaker chairmen said they could not gain access into the Assembly to submit the report as a result of the #EndSARS protest in the land at the time.
Some of them claimed to have submitted the report to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters since the circular requesting for the submission of the report came through the Ministry.
While lifting the suspension order, the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, said the request was made to ascertain the condition of equipment in the councils as most roads in the council areas were in bad shape without being graded.
Ogundoyin said, “Our decision was not to witch-hunt any council or caretaker chairman. We are determined to deliver good governance at all times and I want all government functionaries to have that in mind.
“We will be going on oversight functions to all the local government and local council development areas soon to monitor their projects. Let it be known today that the Oyo State House of Assembly will always stand on the side of the people. We shall not compromise on good governance.”
