The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc has warned members of the public against touching or moving close to its facilities in order to avoid being electrocuted.
John Ayodele, Chief Operating Officer, IBEDC, said on Thursday, that the call became important because electrocution were more prevalent during heavy rainstorm, windstorms, and flooding.
He appealed to members of the public to be more cautious in order to avoid falling victims of avoidable accidents during the raining season.
Ayodele said it is important to observe all safety regulations to forestall danger.
The CEO, who maintained that IBEDC was concerned with the safety of its customers and staff, said, “There is need to create awareness on safety measures during the rainy season because of the hazards that electricity and water can cause.
“Avoid conditions that can compromise your safety around electricity such as using wet electrical appliances or handling them with wet hands; stepping in puddles of water that could potentially be charged.
“You should also guard against exposed electrical wires and ensure your houses are well earthed.”
He stressed further that the people should stare clear snapped power wires and cables, sagging lines and fallen poles, adding, “If there is any such incident, customers should call the Customer Care or report through the company’s social media handles immediately while maintaining a safe distance from the point of the accident.
Ayodele warned against trading or sitting under power lines and cables, saying that the cables could easily snap due to strong wind.
He also advised the people against engaging quack electricians to wire their houses or carry out repairs as errors and deviation from sound technical practices and poor workmanship may lead to fire outbreak, loss of properties and death.
