A crowd of #EndSARS protesters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Thursday insisted that besides the proscription of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, the Federal Government must address insecurity and bad governance in the country.
The aggrieved youths, clutching placards with various inscriptions, converged on the Main Gate of the University of Ibadan in the early hours of the day.
Other protesting youth gathered in front of Trans Amusement Park, along the UI-Bodija Road were seen chanting ‘EndSARS,’ ‘NoSWAT’ as they marched down the streets.
The protesters said there was no immediate end to the peaceful protest until their demands were fully granted.
There was apprehension at the approach of a patrol vehicle belonging to the Nigerian Army but normalcy was restored as soon as the vehicle drove by without any interference.
One of the leaders of the protest, Femi Adewale, said the protest would continue till the demands of Nigerians youths were acceded to.
A leader of the group, Tomi Paul, said Nigeria youths should no longer be seen as internet fraudsters.
According to her, the youth needed viable economic environment to be able to engage in legitimate ventures.
Paul, who blamed the government for failing to prioritise youth development, said, ”The protest started with #EndSARS but now, it has moved beyond that. We want good governance and we insist that insecurity must end.
”We want an end to youth unemployment, we want an end to police brutality and we want government to prioritise education. If not, we are not going to stop this protest. We are ready to go on for as long as it takes government to address the issues.”
