Angry youths at Mokola area of Ibadan took to the streets in protest against the killing of a teenager in the city, on Wednesday.

The identity of the deceased was not known as of the time of filing this report.

The teenager, an apprentice with a printer, was said to have been on an errand to buy food when he was shot dead near Uncle Joe, Mokola, on Tuesday.

One of the protesters said, “One of the boys at Mokola, an apprentice, was killed while going to buy food. He was working at a printing press; they had to work overnight at the press so they sent him to buy food when he was shot.”

The protesting youths, that made bonfire, blocked some of the major roads leading to Mokola resulting in traffic snarl that lasted nearly an hour as they mourned the death of the deceased.

The aggrieved youths urged the governor to curtail the Amotekun operatives from using firearms within the city in the light of their excesses.

However, Col. Olayinka Olayanju, Commandant of the Oyo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun Corps, denied the alleged killing of the teenager by his men.

Olayinka was quoted as saying, “On my honour, Amotekun had nothing to do with the Mokola incident. If there was any evidence implicating any of our operatives, I assure you, we would not spare such a person. We don’t condone indiscipline.”

Normalcy has since been restored to the community.
