AKINWALE ABOLUWADE
A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, has discharged Comfort Emmanson, a female passenger who was accused of unruly behaviour and assault aboard an Ibom Air flight recently.
Hitherto five-count-charge was brought against Emmanson but she was discharged following police withdrawal of the case.
Olanrewaju Salami, presiding Magistrate in the case, on Wednesday, struck out the matter after the police formally backed out on it.
Emmanson was alleged to have stirred the peace while on board the flight, and assaulted a crew member.
The lady, said to have acted in a manner capable of breaching public peace and order, earlier pleaded not guilty to the court.
During court proceedings, Police Prosecutor Oluwabunmi Adeitan stated that both the complainant and the airline had decided not to pursue the matter any further.
It was learnt that the decision to withdraw the case came on the instructions of police authorities.
Magistrate Salami therefore granted the application and ordered Emmanson’s discharge, effectively bringing the case to an end.
The row between the airline staff and Emmanson had attracted public outrage and blames.
