The Igbo community in Oyo State has condoled the Yoruba people on the death of Pa Ayo Fasanmi, the leader of the Yoruba socio- cultural group, Afenifere.
Fasanmi, a Second Republic Senator, died on Wednesday, at age 94.
Dr Alex Anozie, the Ezendigbo in Oyo State, in a statement titled, ‘Condolence,’ signed and made available to journalists in Ibadan, described the late Afenifere leader as a true nationalist.
The statement extolled the leadership virtues of the departed Afenifere chieftain who was buried in his Iye Ekiti country home, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, on Tuesday.
The statement described the deceased as one of Nigeria’s unsung heroes, saying his demise had robbed the nation of a ‘godfather and counselor.’
It read in parts, “I am, on behalf of Ndigbo in Oyo State, sending this message of condolence to the Yoruba nation, over the death of the leader of Afenifere, Pa Fasanmi.
”We join in mourning this great leader. May the Almighty God, the creator of heaven and earth, give the family, the Yoruba nation, and all of us the fortitude to bear the great loss. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
