The Academic Staff Union of Universities has been ordered by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Abuja to call off the ongoing nationwide strike.
The strike embarked upon by ASUU has lasted seven months since February 14.
Among other things, the industrial action was targeted at pressing home its call for a review of lecturers’ salaries and emoluments.
Meetings between ASUU and the Federal Government had deadlocked, following which the Federal Government challenged the action in court.
James Igwe, counsel to the Federal Government, prayed the court for an interlocutory injunction restraining ASUU from taking further steps as regards the strike, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Justice Polycarp Hamman ordered the lecturers to return to classrooms.
