Mr Jacob Adeleke, the kidnapped Caretaker Chairman, Iganna Local Council Development Area of Oyo State, and his driver have regained their freedom.
The two hostages were reportedly kidnapped by some unknown gunmen on their way to Ibadan barely six days ago.
The police, in collaboration with the men of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in the zone, had been combing the forests in search for the abducted men.
A council chairman, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, broke the news of their release on Friday night.
When contacted for confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, Olugbenga Fadeyi, said, “The chairman has regained his freedom and reunited with his family.”
The abducted council chief, who was billed for a meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde last Monday, was kidnapped, alongside his driver along the Okeho-Ado Awaye Road on Sunday.
The abductors were said to have demanded N200 million ransom from the families of the victims. It could not be confirmed if a ransom was paid for their release or not.
