Venerable Olu Obanla and his son who were kidnapped on Saturday along the Ifon-Okeluse Road in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State have been set free by their captors.
The Ondo State Police Command made the disclosure on Tuesday through Funmilayo Odunlami (SP), the Police Public Relations Officer in the state.
The PPRO said that the father and son were released on Monday around 12.30pm in Edo.
Odunlami was quoted as saying that “As I am speaking with you, I am in Abuja. But, I can confirm to you that the victims had been released yesterday (Monday) around 12:30pm somewhere in Edo, and they have been reunited with their family.
“But, I cannot confirm to you if the family paid any ransom or not before they were released.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Obanla and his son were travelling along the road on Saturday when the hoodlums accosted and dragged them to an unknown destination in the bush.
Earlier, the bandits reportedly demanded for N10 million ransom to secure the release of the victims. However, it was learnt that the family were unable to raise the said amount.
They were said to have presented N1 million to the captors but it was rejected.
