LAUTECH, AAUA, UNIPORT, others resume after eight-month-old-strike

Following the suspension of the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, some universities have announced their resumption dates.

This came as some universities await resolutions from their various chapters’ congresses.

Recall that the academic union embarked on strike on February 14. It suspended the action on Friday, eight-month after. 

The Bayero University, Kano, slated the commencement of its resumption of academic activities for October 24. 

Lamara Garba, Deputy Registrar, Public Affairs of the university, said in a statement that the BUK’s management, on Thursday, October 13, approved the resumption date.

The statement read that “Consequently, students are to resume academic activities with effect from Monday, October 24, 2022.’’ 

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, gave October 22 as the resumption date for academic activities in a memo dated October 14, signed by the university’s Registrar. 

The document indicated that students are to return to campus on Saturday, October 22, while the second semester lectures will resume on Monday, October 24.

Report has it that ASUU, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto chapter, would wait for the outcome of its Senate meeting on resumption.

The ASUU Chairman in the institution, Prof. Muhammed Almustapha, was quoted as saying, “Based on the rules and regulations guiding university education, academic activities can only resume after the meeting of the Senate where school calendars will be approved accordingly.”

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso;
Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye; Federal University Owerri; Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike; University of Port Harcourt, Port-Harcourt; and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, scheduled their resumption for October 17.

Federal University, Dutsin-Ma resumed on October 16; Federal University, Lokoja – October and Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike are to resume on October 24. 

Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa fixed its resumption for October 30, while Sule Lamido University, Karfin-Hausa would resume on October 31.
