Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed sadness at the death of the former governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
The governor, in a condolence message to the Ajimobi family and the residents of Oyo State, also directed that the flag should fly at half mast in the state, on Friday.
Makinde’s condolence message read in parts, “I was so sorry to hear the news of the passing away of the immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, earlier today (Thursday).
“I cannot begin to imagine the pain the family must be going through at this time because of the loss of their patriarch.
“It is my prayer that God grants them all the strength to bear this great loss.
“I join the good people of Oyo State as we mourn the death of a statesman. I have directed that flags fly at half-mast tomorrow (Friday) in honour of our brother, friend and illustrious son of Oyo State.
“Surely, he will be remembered for leaving a blueprint for some of the activities that our administration is now undertaking.
“The Oyo State Government will be extending to his family, all the courtesies deserving of his personage. May his soul rest in peace.”
Also, a former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has expressed shock over the death of Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
Prince Oyinlola, in a message on Thursday, described the demise of Senator Ajimobi as a great loss to Nigeria in general and Yorubaland in particular.
According to him, the late Ajimobi was a complete gentleman and a patriot in every sense of the word.
He noted that Ajimobi had a very large heart in his dealings with all manner of persons who came his way while his politics was clearly without bitterness.
Oyinlola added that the late ex-governor gave a good account of himself first as senator, then later as governor leaving behind legacy programmes and projects that will forever mark him out as a very successful politician.
He prayed for the repose of his soul and for his family to have the fortitude to bear the loss. peace.
