Panic gripped the business community in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday morning after an unidentified man reportedly fell from one of the upper floors of the iconic 26-storey Cocoa House.
Eyewitnesses described the moment as shocking and surreal. “At first, I thought it was a large bird falling from the sky,” said one witness. “It wasn’t until the person hit the ground that I realised it was a human being. I had my phone with me, but I was too stunned to record anything.”
Another observer recounted that the man struck a rooftop adjacent to the building’s security post before hitting the ground. “It was a terrifying sight,” the witness said.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear as investigations continue.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the management of Cocoa House, Odu’a Investment Company Limited, confirmed the incident. According to Victor Ayetoro, Head of Branding and Communication for the firm, the individual received immediate attention from emergency responders and was taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for urgent medical care.
“The company expresses deep concern over this unfortunate development and is fully cooperating with authorities as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the fall,” the statement read.
