One week after being honoured with an award for exceptional service in line of duty by Vento Furniture, an Abuja-based company, Nigerians continue to celebrate Emmanuel Kopwal, a traffic warden who is popularly called the ‘dancing warden.’
Kopwal, who is from Plateau State, directs traffic in Wuse, Abuja with zest and excitement as he dances to the admiration of motorists and other road users.
Social media is awash with congratulatory massages to the dancing warden since last week when the furniture company presented him a commendation certificate and other gifts for being exceptional.
Salako Wale, wrote in a comment to a video showing the warden, posted by Daily Trust, that “I know of one particular officer in Abuja, around Ritalori Junction with this work.”
Joseph Bensonz wrote, “Big congrats brother, keep it on, God bless more,” while, Chukwu Sunday said, “He deserves even more than that. So committed, focused, determined and joyful in service.”
Rita Ezekwuka expressed surprise at the traffic warden’s source of strength and acumen, saying, “I know this guy. Stones, I wonder where he gets the strength… He’s always smiling, always dancing and demonstrating, okay.”
However, Prince Nnamani, expressed distrust on the choice made by the traffic officer regarding the aware, stating, “I am not happy with him dedicating his award to ‘oga at the top.'”
Olusegun Adeniyi, former presidential spokesperson who is also the brand ambassador of Vento Furniture, presented the certificate to Kopwal at an award ceremony organised by the company at Jabi Lake Mall, last week.
He was also presented with a television set and a bag of rice.
Kopwal, in an interview with The Cable, said that “When they saw the video, some people collected my number from my brother and friends. They were calling me. They said I should continue doing like that. My name is Emmanuel from Plateau State, my local government is Pankshin.
“I remember when we went to Police College; they thought us how to control traffic. If you are not happy, people will not like it. I do not have any regret. This is part of promotion. I dedicate this to the Inspector General of Police.”
