Nigerians must pray, keep their eyes open and shun ethnic and religious sentiments for a man after God’s heart to emerge as president in 2023, the President of the African Church, Dr. Emmanuel Udofia, has said.
The clergyman warned the citizens not be deceived into another slavery, saying that they must consider the best and suitable candidate for the job.
Udofia spoke on Thursday at the opening of the church’s 4th biennial conference at the African Church, Ebenezer Cathedral, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The clergyman said, “As the 2023 general elections is fast approaching, I advise Nigerians to shun religious discrimination and ethnicity in electing leaders. I advise them to pray for good leaders.
“Political arrangements, permutations, alignments and re-alignments are in top gear towards the elections. I implore political actors and gladiators to play their games according to the rules, being mindful of the fact that politics is not a do or die affair.
“The church needs to intensify on her prayers and sensitisation of her members that we will not be deceived into another slavery and that God will install a man after his own heart to rule this nation.
“While considering the best suitable candidate for the job, I urge Nigerians to shun ethnic and religious sentiments by allowing a man after God’s heart to emerge as the president in 2023.
“Instead of voting blindly for candidates with self-serving intentions, let’s open our eyes wide this time.”
Dwelling on the theme of the conference, ‘Redeeming the time,’ he said, “African Church remains one of the earliest indigenous churches in Nigeria, founded on October 13, 1901 to enable Africans spread the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and worship God in spirit and in truth without any racial interference.”
