Sheikh Muihydeen Bello, a popular Islamic cleric, said in Ibadan, on Wednesday that since the administration of former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, wound up in 2019, there had been no significant development in the state.
The Islamic cleric spoke during his sermon at the maiden annual Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi memorial Ramadan lecture held on Wednesday in Ibadan at the Abiola Ajimobi Central Mosque, Oke Ado, Ibadan.
The Ramadan lecture was organised by friends and associates of the late Ajimobi who passed on last year.
Those in attendance at the event are the APC governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu; Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (Oyo North), Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Ajimobi’s younger brother, Chief Wasiu, and his child, Mr. Idris Ajimobi.
Also present on the occasion are the state chairman of APC, Chief Akin Oke; APC Secretary, Mr. Mojeed Olaoya; House of Representatives member representing Oluyole Federal Constituency, Tolulope Akande-Sadipe; and Dr. Amoo Alaga.
The Islamic cleric, who spoke on ‘Nothing goes without reward from Almighty Allah,’ said there had not been notable activities in governance in the state since the advent of the current administration in the state.
Expressing worries on the spate of insecurity in the state, he said, “Nothing has changed in Ibadan. We cannot move freely anymore. People should fear God and obey the prophet. I am now telling you that it is what we do that people will say about us. Ajimobi built good legacies.”
Making reference to the experience under the Seyi Makinde-led government, he said, “They are still planning, we have gone back to the era of planning. We cannot forget Lam Adesina and (Abiola) Ajimobi who have died.”
The Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Mutiu Oladejo, in his address of welcome, corroborated the fact that the vacuum created as a result of Ajimobi’s death remained unfilled.
Oladejo said, “He (Ajimobi) has legacies in all areas of human endeavours. We should all remember to prepare for our death. The vacuum left behind as a result of the death of the former Governor has not been filled.”
