The Nigeria Police Force has named Assistant Commissioner of Police Olabisi Okuwobi, who also serves as the National Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), as the first-ever chairperson of the newly established Nigeria Police Frisbee (Flying Disc) Association.
Her appointment was confirmed in a letter signed by the Director of Sports, Deputy Commissioner of Police Osifo Emefile, empowering her to take on leadership responsibilities aimed at advancing the growth and structure of the association.
In her new role, ACP Okuwobi is expected to constitute the association’s board in accordance with the stipulated guidelines.
Congratulating her on behalf of the Inspector General of Police and the entire police sports community, DCP Emefile expressed confidence in her ability to elevate the sport within the force and beyond.
Frisbee, also known as flying disc, is a recreational and competitive sport played with a curved plastic disc that glides smoothly through the air when thrown. Though relatively new in Nigeria, the game is gaining popularity due to its health and social benefits, including improved cardiovascular fitness, coordination, and team building.
ACP Okuwobi described the integration of frisbee into POCACOV’s anti-crime initiatives as a creative strategy to engage young people and promote positive values.
“Beyond engaging the youth, frisbee provides a healthy outlet for energy and creativity, while fostering teamwork, communication, and essential life skills,” she said.
She further emphasized that the sport can help build stronger community ties, offering a constructive alternative to crime and anti-social behaviour.
ACP Okuwobi stated, “By leveraging frisbee as an anti-crime sport, POCACOV aims to create a positive, empowering experience for young people — ultimately contributing to safer and more cohesive communities.”
