The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 2,550 personnel to ensure safety and security during the 2024 Yuletide season.
The deployment, approved by the State Commandant of the Corps, Augustine Padonu, will run from Friday, December 20, 2024, to January 8, 2025, focusing on maintaining peace and order throughout the festive period.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, SC Samuel Opebiyi, the Command announced that personnel would be strategically assigned to high-risk, medium-risk, and low-risk areas across the state. Specifically, 1,500 personnel will be stationed in high-risk areas, 750 in medium-risk zones, and 300 in low-risk locations.
Their duties will include round-the-clock patrols, surveillance, intelligence gathering, rapid response, and providing logistical and administrative support.
Key deployment areas include critical national assets and infrastructure, road intersections, motor parks, amusement centers, religious institutions, markets, and other public places. Special attention will be given to crime hotspots, densely populated areas, major transportation hubs, and recreational centers.
To enhance the effectiveness of the deployment, Commandant Padonu has directed various specialized units, including the Intelligence and Investigation Department, Disaster Management Unit, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and Agro-Ranger Unit, to bolster surveillance and emergency response capabilities.
Efforts will focus on preventing crimes such as kidnapping, vandalism, and other criminal activities during the festive season.
The Command has issued operational guidelines for its personnel, emphasizing professionalism, discipline, and vigilance. Additionally, collaboration with other security agencies will ensure a unified approach to safeguarding lives and property during the holidays.
The public is encouraged to adopt safety measures, such as avoiding ostentation, maintaining a low profile, and being cautious in crowded areas. Cybersecurity precautions are also advised, with residents urged to avoid sharing sensitive information online. Travelers are encouraged to use government-approved motor parks and avoid nighttime journeys.
Event organizers are urged to collaborate with the NSCDC for crowd management and safety planning. Members of the public are also encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the Corps or other security agencies promptly.
As the festive season approaches, the NSCDC Oyo State Command extends its best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, urging everyone to celebrate peacefully and responsibly.
