The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Oyo State chapter, has celebrated the Scheme’s 52nd anniversary with a series of commemorative activities, including a symbolic road walk and an inspection of ongoing projects at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin.
Leading the celebrations was the State Coordinator, Comrade Odoba Abel Oche, who joined NYSC staff and Corps members in the road walk, which began at the NYSC Secretariat in Agodi-Gate, Ibadan. The procession made a significant stop at the Oyo State Government Secretariat, where Comrade Odoba addressed participants and passersby.

In his remarks, Odoba paid tribute to the Scheme’s founding fathers, describing the NYSC as a cornerstone of national unity and development. He commended the current leadership of the NYSC for sustaining its relevance and praised the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, for its consistent support.
“The government and people of Oyo State have played a pivotal role in the success of the NYSC in the state,” he said. “We remain committed to contributing meaningfully to all sectors that need our intervention.”
Odoba also highlighted Governor Makinde’s efforts in prioritizing Corps members’ welfare and creating a supportive environment for their service, noting that Oyo State stands out as a model for others nationwide.
The anniversary celebration concluded with an inspection of key projects at the Iseyin Orientation Camp, including a nearly completed 5,000-capacity multipurpose hall and a newly built 10-room staff quarters.
Retired NYSC Southwest Director, Mr. Amusan Oluwole Julius, who participated in the tour with other dignitaries, praised Comrade Odoba’s visionary leadership. “He is a leader who dares the impossible — a true asset to the NYSC and to Nigeria,” Amusan remarked.
