Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, has charged the 2021 Batch ‘A’ corps members to ensure that they leave a legacy in their host communities for posterity sake.
The DG of NYSC gave the charge while delivering his goodwill message to the corps members and camp officials in a virtual meeting as activities were being rounded off at the camp. He asked them to embark on sustainable projects that would meet the felt needs of their immediate environment.
He also emphasised the need for corps members to sustain Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme even after the orientation exercise. By pursuing skill acquisition with passion, he said they would not be distracted by the unserious elements.
The DG equally urged the corps members to exhibit the spirit of discipline, patriotism and commitment at their places of primary assignment, saying they should make service to humanity paramount in their minds and not the gain or the allowance to be paid.
The corps members were further encouraged to propagate the ideals of the scheme and asked not to align with the current agitations that could bring division as NYSC promotes the unity of this nation. He said, “Corps members are required to be loyal to the course of the Nigeria project.”
Urging them to see themselves as one and sustain relationships with one another, the NYSC chief, warning them against criminality such as cybercrime and negative use of social media.
He warned them to shun activities that could tarnish the image of the scheme and stressed the need for them to be security conscious.
The Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, urged the corps members to take the admonition of the Director-General seriously saying it would afford them a hitch-free and rewarding service year.
