AKINWALE ABOLUWADE
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has said that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, could not have won Saturday’s presidential election by leading in two zones.
Atiku premised his submission on Obi’s inability to get the constitutionally required spread needed to be declared president.
Atiku spoke on Thursday in Abuja at a press conference where he reiterated his party’s position to reject the results of the presidential election.
A presidential candidate is required to garner 25 per cent of votes in, at least, 25 states to be declared the winner of the presidential election.
APC’s Bola Tinubu who emerged as the winner, scored 25 per cent of votes in 30 states.
Acknowledging the fact that Obi’s candidacy denied PDP votes from its traditional strongholds in the South-East and South-South regions, Atiku said that victory in the two regions alone could not be sufficient for the former to be declared president.
