Ibadan, the Oyo State capital and other parts of the state was tension soaked, on Thursday evening at a frightening report which read that the former governor had passed on.

The rumour mill had it that Ajimobi’s condition had deteriorated. Many of the Ajimobi’s friends, associates and party members were seen making frantic efforts to confirm his true health status.

A member of his party said, “We pray that he overcomes the current health challenge being faced at the moment. We want to believe that he is still alive.

“You know, it is difficult to rely on online reports that say the former governor was dead. We know he was very sick but he was already getting over it. He did not die.”

Ajimobi’s Media Aide, Bolaji Tunji, said, “My attention has been drawn to the rumours circulating on the social media about my principal. Kindly disregard. We, however, continue to pray for him. Thank you all for the show of concern.”

Most of the key members of the party were not reachable on their mobile telephones at some point as uncertainty pervaded the air.

Many online platform wrote screaming headlines that suggested tragedy. However, a message said to have emanated from Ajimobi’s Twitter handle, on Thursday, indicated that he was not dead.

It read, “I am not dead. Stop this rumour mongering. Ajimobi is very much alive. The Constituted Authority is here for a lot more time. I will beat corona (virus) and be back on my feet soon.”
