Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has been warned against the alleged wastage of state’s resources on his political party, the People’s Democratic Party, on the basis of his ambition to run for Vice-Presidency on the party’s platform in the 2023 elections.
The All Progressives Congress Professionals in the state gave the warning after arising from its meeting in Ibadan on Friday, noting that instead of concentrating his efforts on governance, Governor Makinde endeared himself to politicking for selfish aggrandisement.
According to the group, going by the available information, over N7 billion had been expended by the governor on the PDP activities in the last six months.
The Chief Convener of the APC-P meeting, Alhaji Adekunle Lawal, said, “Governor Makinde has completely abandoned governance in Oyo State for his quest to extend his political control to the entire South-West, South-South and some states in the North-Central.”
The group added that the governor had nothing to show on governance in more than 15 months in office other than accumulating debts.
It alleged that over N3 billion had, so far been expended on the Ondo State election by the governor at the expense of the people of the state.
The group said it was appalling that the Oyo State governor went as far as Niger State to seek political control using the state’s resources.
Lawal said, “We are not against anyone in the PDP seeking to be Vice-President and lord himself over their party in the entire country, but such a fellow must not do so at the expense of the people of Oyo State.”
