The Christian Association of Nigeria, on Sunday, held a prayer rally against killings and social vices in the world and Nigeria.
The CAN members, who gathered at its Secretariat in Ijokodo, Ibadan, said prayers in different Nigerian languages, including Hausa and Igbo.
They displayed placards with inscriptions such as ‘Oyo CAN says no to killings in God’s name,’ ‘We say no to religious killings,’ and p’Police stop unprovoked killing.’
The Oyo CAN Chairman, Apostle Joshua Akinyemiju, said that there was urgent need for all faithful to take their plights to the Lord and not take vengeance by themselves.
He urged Nigerians to always fear God saying that anyone who feared God would not indulge in killings and other social vices.
Akinyemiju also called on Nigerians to respect and embrace one another in love and peace, despite religions.
“We are here to appreciate what God has been/ is doing in our lives and in solidarity with the families who are bereaved in the country, especially, the family of Deborah Samuel.
“It’s a wake up call for Christians to rise and possess their possession; our God is capable of fighting His own battles, so we are calling on Him to arise and fight for us.
“God promised that when we are in trouble, we should call on Him, so what we are doing is the best expected of us.
“Christians should comport themselves and allow God to avenge them,” he said.
Also, the Oyo CAN Director for State Issues and Social Welfare, Most Rev. Daniel Oluwajimade, prayed that God should not allow the success and joy in the country to be hijacked by the devil.
“We pray for different ethnic groups in Nigeria that God may restore peace and tranquility; we pray that poverty be gone and for serenity across the country,” he said.
They also prayed for unity in the body of Christ as well as for peace and security in Oyo State.
