The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, Augustine Padonu, has deployed 600 personnel to ensure security during the upcoming by-election in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
The deployment was announced by the State Commandant during the August edition of the Monthly Commandant’s Briefing, held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the NSCDC Conference Hall, Area “A” Command Headquarters, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The session, attended by senior officials including Heads of Departments, Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Unit Commanders, focused on the Corps’ readiness to safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure during the electoral process.
The Commandant stated that the NSCDC would work in synergy with the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to ensure the election is peaceful, credible, and free of disruptions.
A statement from the Public Relations Office of the NSCDC, made available to Oyo Reporters Online on Friday, quoted him as saying that “As part of our efforts, we will ensure the protection of lives and properties, as well as the safeguarding of critical national assets and infrastructure. We are fully committed to ensuring that the election process is peaceful, secure, and devoid of any disruptions.”
He warned individuals or groups planning to cause disturbances that the Corps would show zero tolerance for violence or electoral malpractice.
“We will not hesitate to resist any attempts to cause violence or disorder during this election. Our personnel will be on high alert, ensuring the safety of all citizens and the protection of democratic rights,” he stressed.
The Commandant also urged eligible voters in Ibadan North to come out en masse and exercise their franchise, emphasising the importance of active civic participation in sustaining democracy.
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to working with stakeholders to guarantee a safe environment before, during, and after the election.
