The Oyo State Government has said it would employ 7,000 out of the 90,000 candidates that applied for jobs in the state Teaching Service Commission.
This disclosure was made on Thursday by the Chairman of TESCOM in the state, Pastor Akin Alamu.
The TESCOM chairman, who spoke during a live programme on FRESH 105.9FM in Ibadan, said about 90,000 out of the applicants that initially submitted their application had been captured.
Alamu added that applicants would be called for the Computer-Based Test which would take place next month.
He said of these applicants, only 7,000 will be employed for teaching jobs while about 2,000 will be employed as non-teaching staff.
The TESCOM chairman also revealed that Oyo State indigenes would be given priority above indigenes of other states.
He said, “Definitely, indigenes of other states would also be considered due to the cosmopolitan status of the state.”
He added that the score of the applicants would determine the cut-off mark adding that successful applicants would be called immediately for an interview so that they can resume by September at the beginning of new academic calendar.
Alamu said, “We have about 90,000 applicants now. The website is still open for people that have started uploading to complete it. So, we have about 90,000. The state government wants to employ about 7,000 teachers.”
