Primary 4, 5 and 6 pupils in Oyo State are to get a total of 14,850 free books from the state government, Oyo Reporters has learnt.
Giving this indication in Ibadan on Thursday was the Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board in the state, Dr Nureni Adeniran.
Mr. Kunle Yusuff, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on SDGs, announced on Thursday that the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals had donated a total of 14,850 textbooks to primary schools in Oyo State.
The donation, he said, was in fulfilment of the SDG’s pledge to collaborate with the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board on provision of quality education for public primary school pupils in the state.
While addressing journalists at the SUBEB office in Ibadan, on Thursday, Yussuf said the 14, 850 textbooks would be distributed freely to pupils in primary 4, 5 and 6.
He said, “We are convinced that education is key to unlocking Oyo State’s greatest potential, hence, our huge investment in educational intervention programmes.
“We will continue to do our best to create community focused initiatives to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Number 4, which seeks to achieve inclusive and equitable quality education for all by 2030.
“We donated the students’ edition of the Global Goals for sustainable development not just to provide quality education in the public primary schools, but to also create a model for educational experience for our children.”
He assured the Board of SDG’s determination to continue to collaborate for the development of education in the state.
